Town Crier

Effective today, the office of Town Crier Herald is accepting applications until 1 April 2017, with a decision planned shortly thereafter.

Town Crier is a deputy to Löwenmähne, responsible for organizing and ensuring the performance of town cries during outdoor Crown events including May Crown, July Coronation, September Crown, and (when An Tir hosts) An Tir/West War. This includes taking requests for cries, establishing a schedule for performing cries, and making emergency cries when authorized.

Time requirement:

5-10 hours per event, depending on size of the site and availability of volunteers

This position requires:

Consistent and reliable internet and computer access, including an internet browser
Good communication skills, diplomacy, discretion
Organization, and the ability to stay cool under pressure when confronted with ad hoc requests outside the scope of office
Ability to recognize the difference between an actual emergency request and a non-emergency request
Ability to adapt to changing event schedules
Physical ability to navigate site for cries, or recruit volunteers to provide coverage
Recommended, but not required: Familiarity with name pronunciation and style/title practices
Useful, but not required: Ability to train others in vocal technique

Duties & Responsibilities:

Communicate with Royalty and event staff regarding public announcements prior to all Crown events
Make additional public announcements as directed by Black Lion
Coordinate with Löwenmähne and Black Lion to establish a schedule for public announcements at all Crown events
Draft text of public announcements
Recruit and train volunteers to perform public announcement
Supervise, and support all Town Crier volunteers
Create training and working materials as appropriate and knowledgable
Other duties and projects as assigned
